Research

The BEDA Lab brings together corporate partners and interdisciplinary collaborators from the fields of architecture, engineering, ecology, and material science to mitigate the impact of the built environment through a data-driven approach.

Research Topics

  • GIS Map

    BUILT4CLIMATE

We develop comprehensive databases and modeling methods to measure, map, and benchmark the embodied carbon of the built environment, aiming for carbon neutrality through mitigation strategies.

  • Thermographic image showing heat loss around two windows.

    BUILT2LAST

We focus on constructing new sustainable buildings and renovating aging building stock to reduce energy burdens and carbon emissions, emphasizing sustainable, cost-effective design for low-income households.

  • Built Environment-Caused Health Risk Dashboard displaying a map of an urban area with overlaid color-coded risk data, data input fields, charts, and informational panels.

    BUILT4HEALTH

We tackle the variety of health impacts of the built environment, including physical and mental health risks.
